Routledge
Routledge was at one time a thriving community. It was located in the far northwest in the RM of Sifton ,and was bisected by the Trans Canada Highway.
The town of Routledge sprang up when an elevator was built there in 1884.
This elevator was owned by the Leitch Bros.of Oak Lake. And for many years, the elevator was a centre of activity because farmers from far and near hauled their grain to the "Routledge Elevator".
A general store,a livery barn and school were soon added to the town.
The school ,the hub of any community, opened in 1893.
After the school closed in 1965, the building was used for many years as a community hall.
Routledge also boasted a C.P.R. station . Many cattle were shipped .Rail travel became common.
In 1955,Routledge was officially proclaimed an oilfield .Many good wells have been found in the area.
With the closing of the rail station, elevator and post office ,the community began to dwindle but the area's homesteader's legacy remains.
